Marcia Symphorien
Marcia Symphorien is a past student of the Entrepot Secondary School and student of the year of the class of 1990. While a student at ESS she developed a great passion for the French language and excelled in the subject, obtaining a distinction at CXC. Upon her graduation from ESS she attended the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College where she pursued studies in French, Sociology and Management.
She began her career with the French Mission for Cooperation, French Embassy to the OECS, where she worked from 1994 to 1997, before moving to France to pursue her University studies.
She completed undergraduate studies at the University of Toulouse, Mirail in France where she obtained Bachelors degrees in Sociology and Psychology. She subsequently obtained a Masters degree in Counselling from the University of the West Indies in 2009.
Ms Symphorien was appointed as Manager of the Women’s Support Centre, St Lucia’s only shelter for victims of domestic violence in 2002 and remained in this position until her resignation in 2009. She currently holds the post of Secretary General of the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO and National Correspondent to the International Organisation for the Francophonie.
Ms Symphorien served as a member of the UNESCO Executive Board from 2011-2013. She presently serves as the Vice chair of the Francophonie Regional Network, RESICAF and has also served as Saint Lucia’s CEVI Expert since 2010.
