Anthony George holds a Doctor of Philosophy (2010), “Development and Poverty in the Caribbean” from Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand. Prior to this, he pursued a Master of Philosophy (2000), “Poverty Reduction in Saint Lucia” at the University of Wales, Swansea. He is also a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica with First Class Honors, Bachelor of Science in Sociology (1997). Anthony received the awards of New Zealand Commonwealth Scholar (2006 – 2009), United Kingdom Scholar (1999 – 2000) and the Sir Frank Worrell Scholarship for Academic Excellence (1996). He was also the Valedictorian of the Graduating Class of 1997 at UWI, Jamaica.

Anthony attended the Entrepot Secondary School (1983-1988) and graduated as Student of the Year (1988). At the Entrepot Secondary School, he was the Head Prefect, Captain of the Walcott House, Athletics Team, Volleyball Team and President of the Students’ Council. He was also a member of the Football, Cricket and Debating Teams. Anthony was also Valedictorian of the Graduating Class of 1988. His academic excellence and sportsmanship exemplified the values of hard work, discipline, passion and commitment. Interestingly, he does it all with a smile.

Anthony George (PhD) is currently employed with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Office for the Eastern Caribbean Area as Social Policy Officer, United Nations (UN) Joint Programme on Social Protection. He is responsible for the effective coordination of participating Agencies and the Governments of the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) on the UN Joint Social Protection Programme. This joint programme is designed to enhance equity, income inequality and reduce poverty by rolling out social protection floor initiative and child and gender responsive social protection reforms.

Anthony has worked in the field of community development, poverty reduction, social protection and development policy analysis in Saint Lucia and the Caribbean over the past two decades. In his formative years, extensive efforts were employed with the Government of Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucia Poverty Reduction Fund (PRF) in project management and programme monitoring and evaluation aimed at community development and poverty reduction. Later, he would be engaged with the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) and the European Union (EU) with the aim at addressing Social Protection Programmes among the poorest and most vulnerable groups in Saint Lucia. He also served as Senior Policy Analyst, Office of the Prime Minister in Saint Lucia. In his capacity as Social Development Consultant, Anthony George (PhD) worked with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Organisation of American States (OAS) and World Bank (WB) in many of the Caribbean Islands.

Today, Dr. Anthony George works with UNICEF to support, encourage and provide voice for children in the Eastern Caribbean Area, especially those on the margins of development.
